Equestrian Study

Image
gouache on canvas board   This was an experiment with the paint and the canvas board.  I've used gouache before on a smooth surface (like wood) and enjoyed it, but this was the pits.  Couldn't fill in the canvas ridges.  This was also an experiment in painting living things and using perspective.  I know practiced, trained artists can do this a lot better (there are kids that can do it a lot better) but I was just happy to get the angle of the barn and the shape of the horse for now.

"Confetti"

...because I was bored last night or the night before but too tired to try anything meaningful.

OMG I'm Obsessive! "Long Road Down" Take 3!

Image
Can you even tell the differences between the second and third version? This is WAY worse than editing.

Long Road Down Touched Up

Image
I couldn't help it.  The thing needed more texture.  I like lumps.

Long Road Down

Image
Trying to merge what I learned in the landscape class with my own style.  Acrylic on canvas board. Looks good as a postcard .

Vase and Dragonfly

Strange vase and an augmented, stencil dragonfly.  Watercolor pencil on paper.

Landscape Class at Massanutten

Image
I learned how to use a fan brush and a sea sponge during a 90 minute class where we created a spring painting in ac ryli c on canvas board. Might make a nice postcard.

Strange Creature I Dreamt About Last Night

Image
In the dream, David bought a packet of something like sea monkeys and threw them in an empty in-ground pool.  These huge, dangerous creatures grew and we had to hide the pets so the creatures wouldn't eat them.  This was one of the creatures.  Actually, it was longer than this, but I ran out of space on the paper. acrylic on paper

A-Maze

Image
This is a "needed a break" exercise.  I'm actually going to print it out to see what it looks like.  Sometimes 3-d stuff looks cool on paper.

Misc. Stencil

Image
I was bored and wanted to do real art but was too tired. Hard not to get those little watercolor pencil crumbs on the sketch pad.  I think the watercolor paper works better.  I'm left-handed so I have to pay attention to smudging anyway.  Maybe I'll try regular colored pencils next time.

"Trying to Bloom"

Image
Acrylic on canvas--will look better on a postcard, just like "Lollipop Trees."
